For Janine Antoni, the body is a conduit, a tool and an anchor for meaning. We conduct ourselves with movements and gestures – whether as immediate reaction or conditioned response – and our body stores our experiences in the world. Yet there is a common detachment to our bodily presence, making us negligent of the repository we each hold to our memories and senses. Her first ever solo exhibition in Asia, In my holding, draws viewers back to the somatic experiences which celebrate the fragility and strength in being human. Eugenie Tsai, former curator of contemporary art at Brooklyn Museum, wrote an essay on reconnecting to the body, while Elaine W. Ng, editor and publisher of ArtAsiaPacific, interviewed the artist on her practice since the 90s.
