The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation is presenting a new group exhibition, Narrative Obsession in the Post-Colonial Psyche, at The 8th Floor. The exhibition features the works of 12 artists who examine the harmful global histories and present-day legacies of post-colonialism.

Elisa Sighicelli’s work will be part of this exploration of post-colonial themes. Sighicelli is known for her unique technique of applying photographs to backlit plexiglass, creating evocative, partially obscured images that transform reality into something suggestive and theatrical.

Curated by Anjuli Nanda Diamond and George Bolster, Narrative Obsession in the Post-Colonial Psyche aims to reverse the European colonial gaze through a range of artistic approaches, from documentary-like narratives to fantastical ones. The exhibition prompts crucial questions about the nature of post-colonialism and whether true decolonization is possible in the face of persisting systems of manipulation and inequality.

Narrative Obsession in the Post-Colonial Psyche will be on view from May 16th - July 13th, 2024
