Amal Lin (b.1992, Taiwan) is a painter currently based in Calgary, Canada. She began painting with watercolour and oil at a young age, and later was trained in realist and surrealist oil painting under a master in Taiwan. Her interest in Middle Eastern art started with the exposure to the Arabic language and calligraphy as an undergraduate. She later studied at the University of Jordan on a full government scholarship, and gained first-hand experience in the Arabic language, calligraphy, arabesque and geometry art. Her passion in Middle Eastern art led to her formal training in fine art at the Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts in London, UK, where she received a MA degree in Traditional Arts with distinction in 2021.
Her paintings inherit the spirit and techniques of the Persian miniature painting tradition. Her colours and compositions blend together poetically, depicting an invisible but existent world of spirituality with intricate brushstrokes.
