Born in 1971 in Lhasa, Gade graduated in 1991 with a degree in art from Tibet University, where he later went on to teach. In 1992, he began his study of art history at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing where he also attained a MA degree in art management later on. A founding member of the Gedun Choephel Artists’ Guild—the first association supporting contemporary art and artists in Tibet—Gade has exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group shows. His works are held in private and public collections around the world, including the National Art Museum of China, Beijing; the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia; the World Museum, Liverpool; the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia; and the White Rabbit Foundation, Sydney.
